Please Stop Calling Them the "MSM"

UPDATED: 11/08/2005 See below...

I have decided to stop using the term "MSM" or "Mainstream Media." The New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Reuters, The AP, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and most of the dominant newpapers are FAR from mainstream. Their agenda is almost always left of center and are most often mouthpieces for the Democrat cheerleading, anti-Bush, anti-Republican, "it's America's fault," anti-Christian left. Thus they are NOT in the mainstream and do not deserve such a moniker. But they are in fact dominant in their traditional position, while the "new media" of blogs and talk radio in some ways are beginning to break that dominance.

If you are one of my seven readers, help me SPREAD THE WORD- we need to stop calling them the "MSM" and start calling them the "DP" or "Dominant Press." It is much more accurate, because for now- they are still dominant.

NOTE: This post is joining the following trackback carnivals:
Wizbang-Carnival of the Trackbacks XXXVI
Stop the ACLU- Weekend Trackback Party!
Outside the Beltway- Beltway Sunday Drive
The Political Teen- Open Trackbacks: Sunday
The Mudville Gazette- Open Post

UPDATE: If you read the comments that have started in this post, I can see that there are more alternatives to "MSM", but I still like the DP. They are still the main sources of news in this country and most of the bloggers and analysts (the ones that I read at least) still rely on them to get at least the initial stories that we write about. (Note that I didn't say "facts." We don't always get the facts from the DP- at least not all of them in a way that is easily recognised.) They also reach the most people (by FAR) and unfortunately have sway over the unwashed masses- even if the masses are losing faith in them.

In any case, I am asking those of you who are taking the time to read this- Please spread the word. We need to stop calling them the "Mainstream" because they are not. I don't care if you call them the Legacy Media, the Old Media, the Old Dogs who refuse to learn New Tricks... Whatever. I am partial to DP and I'm sticking to it.

Now I think I'll go and make the same suggestion to a few of my regular reads, and see if this will catch on. I'll keep a list here.

Here's one- the good folks at Polipundit use the term quite a bit.
Michelle Malkin is a serial user of the term- as in here.
