YOU KNOW I'M RIGHT
But I could be wrong.

I think that Oliver Willis is finally beginning to get it. (Subtitle- the Democrat's Plan or Lack Thereof.)
There will be great joy in Mudville.
Because, for what it's worth, I'm back. (That's for all seven of you that actually stopped by once in a while.)
I've decided to start doing this blogging thing again, and on a more regular basis. And I have one person to thank for that.
Oliver Willis.
Yeah, yeah, I know. Fisking Cousin Oliver is not exactly a big challenge, but everytime I go over there I find myself writing so much in rebuttal to his commenters and to his.... (try not to be insulting...be nice...think of something that won't belittle him... come on...) "stylings," that I might as well just start writing here again.
ANYWAY, he wrote something on his blog yesterday that is perceptive even for him. (Of course, he wrote it while on the clock at his Media Matters job that doesn't pay him to blog, but they certainly give him plenty of breaks so he can blog.) Oliver writes:
I don’t know why Republicans would feel any concern about the 2006 election. If Democrats continue on the path they’ve been on for the last 13 or so months - that is, capitulation, wimpiness, flip-flopping - the GOP should expect either the status quo or to pick up seats in the House and Senate. They’ll deserve it, because at least they want to fight for their side, no matter how evil their intent may be.
I think he's finally getting it. Well sort of.
O.K. Not really.
(Now I speak directly to Oliver...)
OLIVER! Take a look at your blog. I mean REALLY LOOK. Go back and read your last... Mmmmm- Let's say 50 posts. You have the same problem as most Democrats.
Count how many posts you spend trashing Republicans vs. articulating a single Democrat policy that you support in alternative. O.K. Maybe one- John Murtha's wildly popular "leave Iraq High and Dry Right Now" policy which you suddenly seem to support fully (Probably not for any strategic or logical reasons but because it is so "anti-Bush.")
Now I realize the anti-Republican (O.K. I'll even give you Pro-Democrat) thing is part of your schtick, but seriously- you rarely can articulate an actual Democratic alternative policy that you support. Even when you bitch and moan about Democrats not getting their message out.
Right now it seems the only common Democratic plan is to trash what Republicans and The President are doing. It' kind of funny to me when Democrats complain that they're not getting their message out. We hear their message constantly- in the newspapers, on the Sunday morning talk shows, in their press conferences, on the newswires.
Their only message seems to be a "Republicans are bad. We can do better." Of course they can never define what better means, but they can do it.
Oliver- it's kind of like you ripping Republicans for either being either racist or whores to business interests in the immigration debate (of course while ignoring that the Democrat Governors of New Mexico and Arizona and your boy the "Big Dog's" wife are big players in that debate for the same reasons as most Republicans AND Democrats are.)
Like most Democrats you are so quick to trash Bush and his idea of a guest worker program AND trash "racist" Republicans ideas to step up enforcement ("the wall/military/more border patrol/volunteer.) Even when I confronted you with the question, "exactly what Democratic solution have you heard on this that you support?" you could only come up with this:
I think there are many common sense things that need to be done about securing
the border, but 90% of the Republican agitation for it is blatant dislike of hispanics.
Really? That's a Democratic "plan?"
But in fact, that IS the Democratic plan. 'Something needs to be done, but we'll take shots at the Republican for any idea they come up with and call them racist (or whatever) and not really commit to anything so we don't have to take a stand and possibly upset any part of our voting block (unions, hispanics, hard left) so we can hopefully win elections because we know that no matter whatever the Republicans come up with, we can do better.' WOW- That really resonates with the American people.
Really Oliver. That's all you got?
Silly me. That IS all you got. Because that is all the Democrats, and Media Matters, and Duncan and everyone you associate with ever give you. Bitch and moan with no real plan. Just be against anything the Bush and the Republicans do. THAT is the Democratic Plan. Good Luck.
So here's my request for the rest of you who somehow followed a link here OR stumbled onto this post by accident and found this post through a link I put up somewhere else.
Let's all help Oliver with one issue and see if we can help him come up with one solution he can articulate when someone else asks him a question about immigration. In fact, I'll put it out there the exact same way I did when I wrote it the first time.
Exactly what Democratic solution have you heard on this [issue of immigration] that you support?
If you can’t think of any Democratic solutions, feel free to name ANY of the common sense solution of which you speak that YOU would support.
We’re all listening.
P.S. If it is a Democratic solution, please reference the particular Democrat who is proposing it. AND PLEASE, do not give me a list of Republican ideas that you are against. Step out of the playbook for a change.
Let's see if we can help Oliver find a unique Democratic plan that we haven't heard before.
READY? GO!
